I first learned of the mansion and its eccentric designer from a collection of Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Cartoons in my grade-school library. I never imagined that I would work there as a tour guide. These are the pictures I took there, and the stories that I told.

My husband saw this blog mentioned on BoingBoing and told me about it because he knows I have a lifelong fascination with the house.
I had an opportunity to tour the house a few years ago, and it's great to see so many of the "off-limits" areas. Thanks for doing this!
Hey, keep it coming. This rocks.
My mom was a tour guide at the San Jose History museum - the thing with the light tower. She was fascinated with the Winchester House, I think from childhood, since she grew up in Cupertino in the 1940's. She told me that the "fear of ghosts" thing was just silly legends to attract tourists and that Ms Winchester was actually just really interested in architecture and had a lot of money.
I'm bookmarking your site.
Hey 'les,
For me, part of the fun of the house is the story, so I won't offer much of an opinion on wherher or not the stories about her are true. I will say that working at the house you become very protective of Mrs. Winchester, and I don't believe she was stupid or crazy.
