Is this what makes "lime light"?
Yes, sort of. The same calcium carbide that was used to power the generator was originally used to provide gas light in the mansion. Calcium carbide is a 'lime' gas, and was used in theatrical lighting in the 19th century. It's bright white light gave us the term limelight.
