I first learned of the mansion and its eccentric designer from a collection of Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! Cartoons in my grade-school library. I never imagined that I would work there as a tour guide. These are the pictures I took there, and the stories that I told.

Are these spaces ever open to the public? Is there an official blue print of the structure?
The locked off areas are never open to the public, and only open to employees for special tours. There are a few reasons for this. One is to protect the house, there are parts of it that are just too fragile. Similarly, these areas could be dangerous to guests. Lastly, a lot of these areas are just too difficult to navigate through with guests.
In recent years, a second, smaller tour has been created that goes into previously locked off places like the basement. Combined, the two tours allow public access to about 70% of the mansion.
As for a blueprint, Mrs. Winchester designed the house one room at a time, and made many modifications along the way. Since she never made blueprints, there are none in existence. A few tour guides have attempted to create floorplans over the years, but its really futile to try to capture the house on paper.
Is this house really scary?!!
